Pratt in Venice alumna Hye won Hahn (’06) was honored on the occasion of her exhibition, Life Line_Begin, held at the Tri-Mission Art Gallery at the United States Embassy in Rome.
Featuring approximately 15 works on canvas and paper, the exhibition is on view at the Embassy through July 28, 2019.
In a reception on Friday, July 12, Hye won was warmly welcomed and congratulated with a certificate from Thomas Smitham, Vice Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission, with Pratt in Venice Director Diana Gisolfi, art history faculty and alumnus (’07) Joseph Kopta, and Pratt in Venice alumna Monique Rollins (’06) in attendance. The exhibition coincides with the 35th anniversary of Pratt in Venice, Pratt Institute’s study abroad program, integrating the study and practice of art.
The Tri-Mission Art Gallery, directed by Anna Maria Volpacchio, features solo exhibitions by mid-career and established artists. The Gallery is on the premises of the Tri-Mission complex, the site of the U.S. diplomatic missions to Italy, the Holy See, and the United Nations offices in Rome.
Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, Hye won Hahn received a BFA in Painting, with a minor in Art History in 2007, and a MFA in Fine Arts in 2009 from Pratt Institute. During her graduate study, she also attended Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, studying contemporary art. She has held a solo exhibition at Thomas Square Park Gallery, New York; and group shows include Broome Street Gallery; Lucky Gallery; SOHO 20 Chelsea Gallery; Pratt Institute Manhattan Gallery in New York; Monroe Gallery in Hoboken, New Jersey; and, most recently, the Infinite Jest exhibition in Venice, celebrating 35 years of Pratt in Venice. Her portfolio consists of acrylic and oil sticks on paper. Her working practice involves painting by overlapping lines on top of each other. Each work is a contemplation of her emotion, journey, and thought. She participated in the Pratt in Venice program in 2006.
