Former Pratt in Venice Professor Mario Naves Exhibits Work Made in Venice
Pratt in Venice Professor of Painting, Mario Naves, will exhibit a recent spate of drawings – his first in 30 years – at the Rosenberg Gallery at Hofstra University. These works-on-paper were produced during a stay in Italy this past summer while teaching for the Pratt In Venice 2017 program.
Taking inspiration from direct contact with masterworks of Western art, seen both in museums and in situ at venues like the church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Arena Chapel and the Palazzo Ducale, Naves transcribed paintings by Giotto, Titian, Giorgione, Tiepolo, Giovanni Bellini, and others.
The exhibition opens on October 30, 2017, at 2 pm, and will be on view through November 29. Information about Rosenberg Gallery can be found here; the exhibition is free and open to the public.
